Most Parent letters are now posted under "5-8" and "9-11"

Today was the last day of SEP, it has been a blast and we are so sad to see all the campers go home! For the last day of class, many teachers and students opened their classroom to share what they have been learning with the rest of camp. Check out some of the awesome things students shared! This posted is not divided by age since 9-11 campers visited 5-8 classes and visa versa.

All SEP students gathered on the blacktop for an annual liquid nitrogen bottle explosion put on by Michael Farabaugh the teacher of "Periodic Explorations".

Today in "From Hamlet to Black Panther," students read aloud chosen original scripts of short plays/scenes they wrote in class. They also demonstrated the relationship between Hamlet, The Lion King, and Black Panther which they established in the past week or so.

Today in "Blueprint to You," students held a trial based on the crime scene data they collected. Visitors served as the jury and students in the class tried to convince their jury that their suspect was guilty. Students also presented their final projects.

Today in "Life is a Balancing Act," visiting students had the opportunity to quickly do/practice the same hands-on STEAM activities that were produced in class. Students demonstrated the STEAM activities created in class involving the theme of balance. They will showed off what they created, how it was created, and discussed the science behind it as well as the design process.

Students in "Parsing Primary Sources: Learning to Read like a Historian," presented posters about the Civil Rights movement events.

Students in "Solar Circuits - Solar Homes," showed off their solar houses in a "gallery walk".

Students in "Electric and Autonomous Vehicles," opened their classroom for a discussion on electric and autonomous vehicles.

Today in "Engineering Hogwarts," students shared their work of science fiction that they created. They will be presented these in different ways – some chose to act out a movie trailer, others made a comic book, etc. They also had to invent a device that would help a character in their story, they shared these as well.

Today in "On the Brink...Innovations in WWII," students displayed their trifold research projects on a technology or innovation from WWII.

Today in "The Energizers and Catalyzers in the Biochemical Process," discussed their final experimental projects on the biochemistry of bananas and lactose intolerance.

Students in "Explorations in Neuroscience," presented their neuroscience research and projects.

Students in "Architecture: Redesign in order to Reuse," have spent the past few days redesigning and completing the Landmark Hotel on the Charlottesville Downtown Mall. They have thought about what would be most beneficial to the community and area and brought life back into the half-constructed building. Today, students outside of the class were invited to come and look at the posters and models students made. Visitors also joined the class in some popsicle stick architecture construction.

In "So You Want to Change the World," students used design thinking to solve a world problem in a creative way, today they pitched their solutions!

Students in "Dimensions of Disadvantage," gave presentations about a TV show/movie of their choosing and discussed the representation along the lines of race, class, and gender.

In "Engineers can Change the World," students used design thinking to find ways to improve SEP! Today, they presented their ideas.

Students in "How to Make a Podcast," finished their podcasts and had a listening party followed by a short Q&A about the making of the podcast.
