Each day, we will feature several courses. Throughout the session, we will feature as many courses as possible.

*Images of cow eye dissection ("Explorations in Neuroscience") are included at the bottom of this post*

Today in "Do as Romans Do," students studied various parts of Roman civilization. For example, they studied Roman aqueducts and streets. One aqueduct that really impressed students was the Pont du Gard because of its length of 31 miles. Also, after learning about Roman roads/streets and their organization, students made street signs for roads which they named in Italian. Instructor, Stephanie Long, provided the following example "VIA DELLA STEPHANIA RXXI" which is Stephanie's Street Regnum (Under King) 21.

Today in "From Hamlet to Black Panther," students compared the stories of Hamlet and The Lion King (1994) looking for parallels.

Today in "How to Make a Podcast," students worked on recording their final podcasts.

Today in "Architecture: Redesign in order to Reuse," students continued working on building houses. Students also began planning their redesign of the Landmark hotel.

Today in "Engineers Can Change the World," students worked in groups to brainstorm problems with SEP that they will engineer solutions to for their final project. Issues that groups chose to address included a dorm redesign. For their final project, students interview key stakeholders and design a solution that addresses the needs of all stakeholders. Students will be presenting their ideas to the class.

Today in "Blueprint to You," students learned about GMOs and began individual research on them. The research they do will help inform their arguments in an upcoming class debate.

Today in "(Super) Human Physics," students analyzed the average height of a human's jump and compared it to the height of Superman's jump. After looking at jump data from a previous lab, students watched in order to approximate Superman's average jump height. The students' average was 24-32 cm and was compared to Superman's of about a 38 story tall building. That is super tall! Then, students finished the day working on an optics lab.

In "So You Want to Change the World," students learned about and practiced using logic models that would inform their problem solving. After discussing logic models, the class worked together to complete one on preschools (pictured). Then, in small groups, students began to create their own logic models for the world problem they are researching in class.

"Financing Your Future" this morning consisted of students getting new salary jobs, calculating their monthly wages, and so much more.

"Math, Statistics, and Game Theory" class today was focused on what an experiment is. Students participated in a simulation selective attention hypothesis experiment before getting into the nitty gritty of experiments. They learned that an experiment involves a treatment and a control, an independent variable is a treatment or a cause, a dependent variable is an outcome or an effect, and that there are two kinds of hypotheses (null and alternative). Finally, the class learned and applied the average treatment effect formula to various real-world applications.

This morning in "Explorations in Neuroscience," students conducted cow eye dissections. It was an exciting morning for students, but they were challenged to follow strict directions and maintain a tidy work pace. Then, they worked on preparing presentations for their research conference.

Best,
