Each day, we will feature several courses. The number of courses posted about each day will vary depending on our schedule and tasks for the day. Throughout the session, we will feature as many courses as possible.

Today in "Solar Circuits - Solar Homes," students took a field trip to see solar cells on the rooftop of Ruffner Hall on UVA Grounds.

This morning in "Life is a Balancing Act," students worked on constructing their personalized mobiles. Given certain measurement requirements, students are to create a balanced mobile of any particular design.

Today in "Religion, Rulers, and Riots," students learned about the rise of Islam and interfaith conflicts. In addition to Hindu and Buddhism conflict, students learned about and role played in a game about Christian conflict between the East and West. This conflict is often associated with Greek Orthodoxy in the East and Roman Catholicism in the West.

Today in "The Energizers and Catalyzers in the Biochemical Process," students worked on their final projects. Students have been conducting experiments on bananas and milk. Students are creating posters presentations that explain the science behind these experiments and share what they have been learning the past two weeks of class.

Today in "Engineers can Change the World," SEP engineers worked in their small group "design teams" on the experiment stage of their final project. Student's worked together to brainstorm three different solutions to a SEP problem. Students then worked to draw and design a prototype of their proposed solution to their problem.

This morning in "On the Brink...Innovations in Warfare in WWII," SEP historians continued working on their final projects for the class. Students have chosen one WWII warfare innovation to research. Students are working to create trifold posters that explain what they have learned. Small groups worked together to gather information about the history behind these innovations.

Today in "So You Want to Change the World," students worked in small groups to use an input and output map to help them think about possible solutions to world problems. Students started by brainstorming possible assumptions about the problems and then worked to come up with inputs and outputs which would affect the outcomes.

This afternoon in "Blueprint to You," students split into two groups debated the pros and cons of GMOs based on research they have been doing. Students had the opportunity to share their arguments, have counterarguments, a planning period, more argumentation, and closing statements.

"From Hamlet to Black Panther," students spent this afternoon's class watching "Black Panther" and noting, as well as discussing the parallels between the 2018 Marvel film, the 1994 Disney's "The Lion King," and Shakespeare's "Hamlet."

In "Architecture: Redesign in order to Reuse," students worked on their final projects. Although the projects range in topic and product, all students are working with individually or in small groups to create and construct a new location. Some students were building a car museum while others built daycares for Charlottesville's Downtown Mall. One student was drafting a floor plan for The World's Largest Chick-fil-a too.

Best,

Nicole, Olivia and Abby
