This morning's class of "Financing your Future," was real and all about business. First, students learned about 401(k). They analyzed and discussed the implications of investing in one and how much one should invest across various scenarios. Then, students determined how much, if any, they would want to invest in a 401(k) given their most recent job, chosen yesterday. Class continued with paying mock bills, writing a budget, and writing checks. Some students had to consider how to fund emergencies and extras like sewer problems, Christmas celebrations, and braces, among others.
Today in "From Hamlet to Black Panther," students participated in a creative playwriting workshop. In this workshop, students worked on writing plays that they will be sharing with fellow SEP students on the final day (tomorrow). After this, students did a super fun improv activity. For this activity, students gave their classmates topics to give a 1 minute improv presentation on.
Today in "Engineers Can Change the World," students were hard at work solving real-world problems (the real world problems of SEP of course). In groups, students identified a problem, identified stakeholders, came up with a solution and articulated how their solution met the needs of their stakeholders.
Today in "Solar Circuits - Solar Homes," students worked in groups to design and build their own solar home.
Today in "Periodic Explorations," students witnessed the freezing of a racquetball ball, made of polymer, in liquid nitrogen. The ball then was shattered. This was a demonstration focused on temperature, intermolecular forces, and various materials' chemical properties.

Today in "Blueprint to You," students were researching and debating arguments for and against GMOs, in preparation for a final debate tomorrow.

Best,
Nicole, Olivia and Abby
