Each day, we will feature several courses. Throughout the session, we will feature as many courses as possible.

Today in "Dimensions of Disadvantage," SEP 9-11 students discussed the LGBTQ community and problematic stereotypes, associated expressions/language, and the over/under-representation of the LGBTQ community across different media outlets. Students also learned about the differences between sex, gender, and sexuality. After defining these terms, the class discussed and debated about how and where these three topics intersect.

Today in "Electric and Autonomous Vehicles," students were introduced to the very real world of autonomous vehicles. After a brief lecture, students watched a documentary on DARPA's 2005 Grand Challenge- the first successful completion of an automated vehicle on a 132 mile course. Students then discussed and debated the future of autonomous vehicles.

Today in "Periodic Explorations," students learned about horizontal and vertical trends on the periodic table through the lens of history and experimentation. By focusing on the elements of magnesium, calcium, and aluminum, the class was able to uncover some of the many properties of metals. Specifically, the class focused on group trends like there are more electrons going down a group and therefore the elements are bigger. Also, across periods, elements grow smaller due to more tight nuclei.

Today in "How to Make a Podcast," students worked on recording their final podcasts. Group topics include, a show exploring why so much importance is placed on grades and the effect, a show that features conversations between those who love a certain genre of music (country, rap, etc) and those who hate it, a conversation about the value of movie sequels, a podcast that explores if phones are detrimental, and finally a conversation around why fortnight is so popular yet the hosts think it's bad.

Best,

Nicole, Olivia, and Abby
