Each day, we will feature several courses. Throughout the session, we will feature as many courses as possible.
Today in "Architecture: Redesign in order to Reuse", our 9-11 SEP future architects practiced time gesture drawings by sketching still lives using everyday objects. Students were challenged by beginning their drawings with a significant amount of time to sketch the objects in great detail, as they continued to redraw the objects numerous times they are given less time to do so. Students started with 20 seconds, then 15 seconds, and 10 seconds to draw. The goal of this practice is to understand how to move from drawing an object using a lot of details and moving toward simplifying their drawings to sketching only representations of the objects using the artists understanding of the shapes and lines that make up their object.
Students in "Electric and Autonomous Vehicles" had the opportunity to check out a brand new electric car!

Today during "Parsing Primary Sources: Learning to Read Like a Historian", our 9-11 historians examined current primary sources. Students worked together in groups of 4 to analyze advertisements and ads within today’s modern magazines. Students shared their takes on the overall magazines and the advertisements and articles within them. Students were then asked to use the same skillset to analyze and transfer what they had learned over to historical images from the civil rights movement Students discussed their overall thoughts and impressions of these images, during a whole group discussion. During the second half of class, students worked together to analyze and talk about the songs and song lyrics from the civil rights movement and spoke about what they could learn about this historical time, people, and places represented within the lyrics of the songs.
Today students in, "Engineering Hogwarts" split up into groups and designed different sections of a colony based on Star Trek. Groups were assigned to design food, water, agriculture, medical, housing and transportation components for the colony. Each group built their parts and presented it to the class. The class then came together to assemble the different parts of the colony and to create a constitution. This activity gave students the opportunity to experience designing in both small and large groups.
Best,
Nicole, Olivia, and Abby
